Pochas encantadoras is a book about magical places and the people who live in them. The author is a Brazilian writer and photographer, and this is her first book. She has traveled to more than 30 countries for her projects, but she grew up in Rio de Janeiro. The story is written as a play that takes place on Avenida Paulista (Paulist Avenue), one of the most famous streets in Brazil, where the characters meet each other at different moments for several years between 1986 and 1992. Every year they try to make sense of their lives; they share stories of lovers lost or found among scandals, food eaten or stolen from others' plates, jobs done or bailouts taken by mistake. Each character has a specific function in the play: the Seducer, the Lesbian, the Alcoholic, and others. Although there is no action or plot development in traditional terms, the author's narrative technique makes these characters come alive; they are not just names, but friends and enemies. Their stories make us laugh and cry and think about our own lives and relationships. In "Pochas Encantadoras", the writer explains how she went from a privileged childhood to a difficult adolescence, in a country with a contradictory identity, in which people's lives were so different from each other. The strangeness of the book is that the characters travel from city to city across Brazil, Argentina and Chile to arrive at their final destination: Paulista. This implies their search for identity and belonging. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17253297-pochas-encantadoras The book was awarded the Editorial Novo Conceito prize for Best New Author by Associação Brasileira de Autores (Brazilian Authors Society). It was published in Brazil by Leya Publishing / Editorial Novo Conceito. It was also published in French and Spanish. In this book, a commission of the Paulista Institute presents a commission that selects children from different ages and brings them to Avenida Paulista for one month. The children have to spend the month trying to understand why they have been called there, understanding their need for expression and what it means to be alive. It's like a creation of myths, where they can live about how they feel and experience what awaits them. The book has three parts, each one telling the story of one of the three children who were left in charge. The first child was nine years old and lived in a favela, the second had leukemia and was ten years old, the third was fourteen years old and loved to dance. As they say goodbye to their parents, they are introduced to the new life awaiting them. Paulista appears as a place full of surprises where you can do what you want because nothing is forbidden. Although it is a city where everything seems contradictory, harmful or suspicious, both adults and children are able to experience life with joy for two weeks. cfa1e77820
